Norwalk Summary
Norwalk, California is a city located in Los Angeles County, California. It is located about 17 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles and is part of the Gateway Cities region. As of the 2010 census, the population of Norwalk was 105,549, making it the 58th most populous city in California.
History
The area that is now Norwalk was originally inhabited by the Tongva people, who were later displaced by Spanish settlers in the late 18th century. The area was part of the Rancho Los Nietos, a Spanish land grant given to the Nieto family in 1784. The area was later sold to the Dominguez family in 1834, and the area was known as Rancho Los Coyotes.
In the late 19th century, the area was subdivided and sold to farmers and ranchers. The area was known as Dairy Valley due to the large number of dairy farms in the area. The area was incorporated as the City of Norwalk in 1957.
Geography
Norwalk is located at 33°54'N 118°6'W (33.9000, -118.1000). It is located in the southeastern corner of Los Angeles County, about 17 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. It is bordered by the cities of Santa Fe Springs to the north, Cerritos to the east, La Mirada to the south, and Downey to the west.
The city has a total area of 9.2 square miles, of which 9.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. The city is located in the Los Angeles Basin and is part of the Gateway Cities region.

Norwalk is a major industrial center in the Los Angeles area. The city is home to several large industrial parks, including the Norwalk Industrial Park, the Norwalk Business Park, and the Norwalk Technology Center. The city is also home to several major employers, including the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.
The city is also home to several retail centers, including the Norwalk Towne Center, the Norwalk Promenade, and the Norwalk Marketplace.
