San Pasqual Summary
History
San Pasqual is a small unincorporated community located in San Diego County, California. It is situated in the foothills of the San Pasqual Valley, approximately 20 miles northeast of the city of San Diego. The area was originally inhabited by the Kumeyaay people, who were the original inhabitants of the San Diego region. The Kumeyaay were hunter-gatherers who lived in the area for thousands of years before the arrival of Europeans.
In 1769, the Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portola led an expedition through the area, and named the valley after Saint Paschal, a Spanish saint. The area was then settled by Spanish missionaries and ranchers in the late 18th century. The area was part of the Rancho San Pasqual, which was granted to Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1845.
In the late 19th century, the area was settled by farmers and ranchers, and the town of San Pasqual was established in 1887. The town was named after the nearby San Pasqual Valley. The town was a small agricultural community, and the main crops grown were grapes, olives, and citrus fruits.
