San Antonio Heights Summary
San Antonio Heights is a census-designated place (CDP) located in San Bernardino County, California. It is situated in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, approximately 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The population was 3,371 at the 2010 census, up from 2,945 at the 2000 census.
History
San Antonio Heights was originally part of the Rancho San Antonio land grant, which was granted to Antonio Maria Lugo in 1839 by the Mexican government. The Lugo family sold the land to the San Antonio Heights Land and Water Company in 1883. The company subdivided the land and sold it to settlers, who began to move into the area in the late 19th century.
The area was officially incorporated as the City of San Antonio Heights in 1911. The city was annexed to the City of Upland in 1976.
Geography
San Antonio Heights is located at 34°7′17″N 117°37′17″W (34.121400, -117.621300). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.
Economy
San Antonio Heights is primarily a residential community, with no major industries or businesses located within its boundaries. The majority of residents are employed in the nearby cities of Upland, Ontario, and Rancho Cucamonga.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,945 people, 1,072 households, and 845 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,346.2 people per square mile (519.3/km2). There were 1,098 housing units at an average density of 498.3 per square mile (192.3/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 81.2% White, 1.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 4.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 8.7% from other races, and 4.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 18.2% of the population.
There were 1,072 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.2% were non-families. 17.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $68,958, and the median income for a family was $76,944. Males had a median income of $50,000 versus $35,000 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $30,945. About 3.2% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.2% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
