Graton Summary

Graton, California is a small unincorporated community located in Sonoma County, California. It is situated in the Russian River Valley, approximately 10 miles west of Santa Rosa. The population of Graton was 1,707 at the 2010 census.

History

Graton was originally inhabited by the Coast Miwok Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the 1850s, and the town was officially founded in 1877. The town was named after the Graton family, who were among the first settlers.
The town was initially a logging and lumber town, and the Graton Mill was built in 1877. The mill was the largest employer in the area for many years. The town also had a brickyard, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
