Franklin Cdp is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Merced County, California. It is situated in the San Joaquin Valley, approximately 8 miles south of the city of Merced. The population of Franklin Cdp was 2,845 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Franklin Cdp was originally inhabited by the Yokuts Native American tribe. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1800s, and the town of Franklin was established in 1891. The town was named after Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was president at the time.
The town of Franklin was a small agricultural community, and the main crops grown in the area were cotton, wheat, and barley. The town also had a few small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a saloon.
In the early 1900s, the town of Franklin began to decline as the population moved away to larger cities. By the 1950s, the town was nearly abandoned. In the 1970s, the area was designated as a census-designated place (CDP) and the population began to slowly increase.
