Upper Saddle River Borough is a small borough located in Bergen County, New Jersey. It is situated in the Ramapo Valley, approximately 25 miles northwest of New York City. The borough is bordered by the towns of Mahwah, Ramsey, and Saddle River. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough had a population of 8,208.

History

The area that is now Upper Saddle River was originally inhabited by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 17th century. The area was part of the Saddle River Township, which was established in 1716. In 1750, the area was divided into two parts, the Upper and Lower Saddle River. The Upper Saddle River was incorporated as a borough in 1894.

Geography

Upper Saddle River is located at 40°59'N 74°10'W (40.983, -74.167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 5.2 square miles, all of which is land. The borough is located in the Ramapo Valley, which is part of the Great Appalachian Valley. The borough is bordered by the towns of Mahwah, Ramsey, and Saddle River.

Upper Saddle River is a primarily residential community, with no major industries or businesses located within its borders. The borough is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The borough is also home to several corporate headquarters, including the headquarters of the global pharmaceutical company, Merck & Co.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.7% of the population.
