Singac Summary

Singac is a small borough located in Passaic County, New Jersey. It is situated in the northern part of the state, just south of the New York border. The borough is bordered by the towns of Little Falls, Totowa, Wayne, and Woodland Park. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population of Singac was 4,873.

History

The area that is now Singac was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 17th century. The area was part of the Township of Acquackanonk, which was established in 1720. In 1871, the area was incorporated as the Borough of Singac. The name Singac is derived from the Lenape word for “place of many springs.”

Geography

Singac is located at 40°54'N 74°14'W (40.9000, -74.2333). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The borough is located in the Passaic River Valley, and is bordered by the towns of Little Falls, Totowa, Wayne, and Woodland Park.

Economy

Singac is a primarily residential community, with a small commercial district located along Main Street.
