Runnemede borough Summary

Runnemede Borough is a small borough located in Camden County, New Jersey. It is situated in the Delaware Valley region, just east of Philadelphia. The borough is bordered by Bellmawr, Gloucester Township, and Barrington. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough had a total population of 8,468.

History

Runnemede Borough was originally part of Gloucester Township, which was established in 1695. The area was known as “Runnemede” after the Runnymede Plantation, which was owned by the prominent Cooper family. The plantation was named after the Runnymede meadow in England, where the Magna Carta was signed in 1215. In 1894, the area was incorporated as a borough.

Geography

Runnemede Borough is located at 39°50'14" North, 75°3'45" West (39.837222, -75.0625). It has a total area of 1.3 square miles, all of which is land. The borough is located in the Delaware Valley region, just east of Philadelphia. It is bordered by Bellmawr, Gloucester Township, and Barrington.

Economy

Runnemede Borough has a diverse economy. The borough is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The borough also has a number of industrial and manufacturing businesses. The largest employer in the borough is the Runnemede School District, which employs over 500 people.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 8,468 people, 3,093 households, and 2,092 families residing in the borough. The population density was 6,521.3 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the borough was 79.2% White, 11.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 4.2% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.2% of the population.
There were 3,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 16.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.35.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.7 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $45,938, and the median income for a family was $51,919. Males had a median income of $37,917 versus $30,917 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $20,945. About 6.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
