Princeton Meadows Summary
Princeton Meadows is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Mercer County, New Jersey. It is located within the township of West Windsor and is part of the greater Princeton metropolitan area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 4,845.
Geography
Princeton Meadows is located at 40°17'45" North, 74°40'45" West (40.295833, -74.679167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km2), all of which is land.
History
The area now known as Princeton Meadows was originally inhabited by the Lenni Lenape Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 17th century. The area was part of the original West Windsor Township, which was established in 1797.
In the early 20th century, the area was developed as a residential community. The Princeton Meadows Country Club was established in the area in the 1920s. The area was annexed by the township of West Windsor in the 1950s.
Economy
Princeton Meadows is primarily a residential community. The area is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The Princeton Meadows Country Club is a major employer in the area.
Demographics
As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 4,845 people, 1,845 households, and 1,323 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,717.3 per square mile (1,435.2/km2). There were 1,919 housing units at an average density of 1,467.3 per square mile (567.2/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 68.2% White, 15.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 11.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 2.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.7% of the population.
There were 1,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 28.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40.2 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $90,938, and the median income for a family was $106,944. Males had a median income of $76,944 versus $50,000 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $41,945. About 2.2% of families and 3.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.3% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
