Mount Ephraim Borough is a small borough located in Camden County, New Jersey. It is situated on the eastern side of the county, just south of the city of Camden. The borough is bordered by the townships of Gloucester, Winslow, and Waterford. The population of Mount Ephraim was 4,637 as of the 2010 census.

History

Mount Ephraim was originally part of Gloucester Township, which was established in 1695. The area was first settled in the early 1700s by Quakers from England. The town was named after the biblical Mount Ephraim, which is mentioned in the Old Testament. The town was officially incorporated as a borough in 1926.

Geography

Mount Ephraim is located at 39°51'25"N 75°3'45"W (39.856944, -75.062500). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of which is land.
The borough is located in the Delaware Valley, and is bordered by the townships of Gloucester, Winslow, and Waterford. The borough is located near the intersection of Interstate 295 and the Black Horse Pike.

Economy

The economy of Mount Ephraim is largely based on small businesses and retail. The borough is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, and a few restaurants. The borough also has a few small industrial parks.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 4,637 people, 1,845 households, and 1,220 families residing in the borough. The population density was 5,093.3 people per square mile (1,967.2/km2). There were 1,945 housing units at an average density of 2,093.3 per square mile (806.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 79.2% White, 14.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 1.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.7% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.7% of the population.
There were 1,845 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.2% were married couples living together, 15.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $45,938, and the median income for a family was $51,964. Males had a median income of $37,917 versus $30,917 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $20,945.
