History

The area that is now Bloomsbury Borough was first settled in the late 1700s by German and Dutch immigrants. The first settlers were primarily farmers, and the area was known as “Bloomsbury” due to the abundance of wildflowers that grew in the area. The area was officially incorporated as a borough in 1845, and the first mayor was elected in 1846.
