Bloomingdale Borough is a small borough located in Passaic County, New Jersey. It is situated in the northern part of the state, just south of the New York border. The borough is bordered by the towns of Wanaque, Ringwood, and West Milford. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough had a total population of 8,202.

History

The area that is now Bloomingdale Borough was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 17th century. The area was part of the larger Pompton Township, which was established in 1740. In 1837, the area was incorporated as Bloomingdale Township. The name was derived from the Dutch word “bloemendaal”, which means “valley of flowers”.
In 1895, the borough was reincorporated as Bloomingdale Borough. The borough was originally a rural farming community, but it began to develop into a suburban community in the mid-20th century. The borough experienced a population boom in the 1950s and 1960s, as many people moved to the area from New York City.

Geography

Bloomingdale Borough is located at 40°57'25" North, 74°17'45" West (40.9569, -74.2958). The borough has a total area of 2.3 square miles, all of which is land. The borough is located in the Ramapo Mountains, and is surrounded by the Wanaque Reservoir.
The borough is located in the northern part of New Jersey, just south of the New York border. It is bordered by the towns of Wanaque, Ringwood, and West Milford. The borough is located approximately 25 miles northwest of New York City.

The economy of Bloomingdale Borough is largely based on retail and services. The borough is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, shops, and professional services. The borough is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics factory and a printing company.

Demographics

As of the 2010 United States Census, there were 8,202 people, 2,945 households, and 2,092 families residing in the borough. The population density was 3,541.3 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the borough was 87.2% White, 4.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 4.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
There were 2,945 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.30.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $62,813, and the median income for a family was $71,964. Males had a median income of $50,000 versus $37,500 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $27,845. About 4.2% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
