Othello Summary
Othello is a city located in Adams County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,939 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Moses Lake Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Othello was founded in 1883 by the Northern Pacific Railway. The city was named after the Shakespearean play Othello, the Moor of Venice. The city was incorporated in 1910.

Economy
Othello is a major agricultural center in the Columbia Basin. The city is home to a number of large farms and ranches, as well as several food processing plants. The city is also home to a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 5,939 people, 1,945 households, and 1,400 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,567.0 inhabitants per square mile (992.2/km2). There were 2,093 housing units at an average density of 906.5 per square mile (349.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 68.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.9% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 26.3% from other races, and 3.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 44.2% of the population.
There were 1,945 households, of which 44.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, 7.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 27.4% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.04 and the average family size was 3.54.
The median age in the city was 30.7 years. 33.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 9.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25.2% were from 25 to 44; 21.3% were from 45 to 64; and 11.1% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.2% male and 50.8% female.
