Montesano is a small city located in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. It is situated on the Chehalis River, approximately 10 miles (16 km) from the Pacific Ocean. The population was 3,541 at the 2010 census.

History

Montesano was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from the Midwest. The city was named after the nearby Montesano River, which was named after the Spanish explorer Francisco de Montesano. The city was incorporated in 1891.
In the early 1900s, Montesano was a thriving logging and lumber town. The city was home to several sawmills and a large shingle mill. The city also had a thriving agricultural industry, with dairy farms, fruit orchards, and vegetable farms.
