Meadowdale is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. The population was 8,945 at the 2010 census.
History
Meadowdale was first settled in the late 1800s by homesteaders who were attracted to the area by its abundant natural resources. The area was originally known as "Meadowdale Prairie" and was home to a small farming community. In the early 1900s, the area was developed into a residential community and the name was changed to Meadowdale.
Geography
Meadowdale is located at 47°48'25"N 122°14'45"W (47.806944, -122.245833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Meadowdale is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The area is also home to several industrial parks, which provide employment opportunities for local residents.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 8,945 people, 3,541 households, and 2,521 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,133.3 people per square mile (822.3/km2). There were 3,717 housing units at an average density of 883.3/sq mi (341.2/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 87.2% White, 2.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 3.7% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 2.3% from other races, and 4.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.2% of the population.
There were 3,541 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 5.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $54,917, and the median income for a family was $60,917. Males had a median income of $41,917 versus $31,917 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $24,917. About 4.2% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
