Ione Summary
Ione is a small town located in Pend Oreille County, Washington, United States. It is situated on the Pend Oreille River, near the Idaho border. The population was 545 at the 2010 census.
History
Ione was founded in 1891 by the Northern Pacific Railway. The town was named after Ione, the daughter of a railroad official. The town was incorporated in 1909.
Geography
Ione is located at 48°17′N 117°17′W (48.28, -117.28). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Ione's economy is largely based on agriculture and timber. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a gas station.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 545 people, 230 households, and 145 families residing in the town. The population density was 778.6 people per square mile (301.3/km2). There were 250 housing units at an average density of 357.1 per square mile (138.1/km2).
