Clyde Hill Summary

Clyde Hill is a city located in King County, Washington, United States. It is situated on the east side of Lake Washington, just north of Bellevue and east of Seattle. The population was 2,983 at the 2010 census.

History

Clyde Hill was first settled in the late 1800s by homesteaders who were attracted to the area by its natural beauty and proximity to Seattle. The first post office was established in 1891 and the town was officially incorporated in 1952.
The city was named after Clyde Hill, a prominent Seattle businessman who owned a large tract of land in the area. Hill was a major investor in the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway, which ran through the area in the late 19th century.

Geography

Clyde Hill is located at 47°37'17" North, 122°13'17" West (47.6214, -122.2214). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Clyde Hill is primarily a residential community, with most of its residents employed in the nearby cities of Seattle and Bellevue. The city does have a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a gas station, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,983 people, 1,093 households, and 845 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,521.7 people per square mile (973.2/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 971.7 per square mile (375.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 4.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 11.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 3.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.2% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.7% were non-families. 18.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 31.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $118,945, and the median income for a family was $133,945. Males had a median income of $100,000 versus $60,000 for females. The per capita income for the city was $63,945. About 1.7% of families and 2.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.3% of those under age 18 and 1.7% of those age 65 or over.
