Irving Summary

Irving, Illinois is a small village located in the northern part of Lake County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Des Plaines River, about 25 miles northwest of Chicago. The village has a population of about 1,500 people and covers an area of 0.7 square miles.

History

Irving was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after Washington Irving, the famous American author. The first post office was established in 1837 and the village was officially incorporated in 1853.
In the late 19th century, Irving was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, and a creamery. The village also had a railroad station, which connected it to Chicago and other nearby towns.
In the early 20th century, Irving began to experience a decline in population as many of its residents moved to larger cities in search of better job opportunities. The village also suffered from a lack of investment in infrastructure and services.
