Hutsonville is a small village located in Crawford County, Illinois, United States. The population was 517 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Robinson, Illinois Micropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Hutsonville was founded in 1819 by William Hutson, a Revolutionary War veteran. He named the village after himself and it was incorporated in 1872. The village was originally a farming community, but it later became a coal mining town. The coal mines were in operation until the 1950s.
Geography
Hutsonville is located at 39°14'25"N 87°45'45"W (39.240278, -87.7625). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.
Economy
Hutsonville's economy is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, including a dairy farm, a hog farm, and a grain farm. The village also has a few small businesses, including a gas station, a grocery store, and a hardware store.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 517 people, 212 households, and 145 families residing in the village. The population density was 845.2 people per square mile (326.2/km2). There were 229 housing units at an average density of 372.3 per square mile (143.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.8% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.6% of the population.
There were 212 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 years of age or older.
