Thomson Summary

Thomson, Illinois is a small village located in Carroll County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,281 at the 2010 census. It is located along the Mississippi River, approximately 30 miles northwest of the Quad Cities.

History

Thomson was founded in 1836 by William Thomson, a Scottish immigrant. He purchased the land from the federal government and named the village after himself. The village was incorporated in 1854.
Thomson was a major stop on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, which ran through the village from 1855 to 1971. The railroad was a major factor in the growth of the village, as it provided transportation for goods and people.

Geography

Thomson is located at 42°14'25"N 90°17'45"W (42.240278, -90.295833). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles, all land.

Economy
