History

Symerton was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after Symerton, New York, the hometown of the settlers. The first post office was established in 1856.
The village was incorporated in 1872. In the late 19th century, Symerton was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a grain elevator.

Symerton is located at 41°25'25"N 88°14'17"W (41.423, -88.238). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all land.

Symerton is a small, rural community with a primarily agricultural economy. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,093 people, 393 households, and 287 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,213.3 people per square mile (468.7/km2). There were 413 housing units at an average density of 459.4 per square mile (177.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.9% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 393 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.27.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 28.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
