Sauk Village Summary

Sauk Village is a village located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 10,506 at the 2010 census. Sauk Village is located in the south suburbs of Chicago, and is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

History

Sauk Village was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of Potawatomi Indians. The village was named after the Sauk tribe, which was one of the largest Native American tribes in the area. The village was officially incorporated in 1957.

Geography

Sauk Village is located at 41°32'17" North, 87°33'45" West (41.538056, -87.5625). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all land.

Sauk Village is home to a variety of businesses, including manufacturing, retail, and service industries. The village is also home to a number of small businesses, including restaurants, grocery stores, and other retail establishments.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 10,506 people, 3,845 households, and 2,717 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,500.3 people per square mile (965.7/km2). There were 4,093 housing units at an average density of 983.2 per square mile (379.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 57.2% White, 33.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 5.7% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.3% of the population.
There were 3,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.2% were married couples living together, 19.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.27.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.2 males.
