Rose Hill Summary
Rose Hill, Illinois is a small village located in the northern part of the state, in Stephenson County. It is situated on the banks of the Pecatonica River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The village has a population of just over 500 people, and is a quiet, rural community.
History
Rose Hill was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the wild roses that grew in abundance in the area. The settlers built a sawmill and a gristmill, and the village quickly grew. By the late 1800s, Rose Hill had become a thriving community, with a post office, a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a school.
In the early 1900s, the village began to decline. The sawmill and gristmill closed, and the population began to dwindle. In the 1950s, the village was almost abandoned, but a few families remained. In the 1970s, the village began to experience a resurgence, as people began to move back to the area. Today, Rose Hill is a small, rural community, with a population of just over 500 people.

The village is located about 25 miles from the city of Freeport, and about 50 miles from the state capital of Springfield.
