Ramsey Summary

Ramsey, Illinois is a small village located in Fayette County, Illinois. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state, about 40 miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. The village has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Ramsey was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The village was named after a local family, the Ramseys. The first post office was established in 1855. The village was incorporated in 1872.
In the late 19th century, Ramsey was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, a sawmill, and a brickyard. The village also had a railroad station, which connected it to the larger cities of St. Louis and Chicago.
