Orland Hills, IL is a village located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is a suburb of Chicago, located about 25 miles southwest of the city. As of the 2010 census, the village had a population of 7,149.
History
The area that is now Orland Hills was first settled in the 1830s by German immigrants. The village was originally known as "Hickory Hills" and was incorporated in 1959. The name was changed to Orland Hills in 1967.
Geography
Orland Hills is located at 41°37'17" North, 87°48'45" West (41.6214, -87.8125). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.2 square miles, all of it land.
Economy
Orland Hills is home to several businesses, including a Walmart Supercenter, a Home Depot, and a Lowe's Home Improvement store. The village also has a number of restaurants, including a McDonald's, a Subway, and a Burger King.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 7,149 people, 2,541 households, and 1,945 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,711.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the village was 87.2% White, 4.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 4.7% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.3% of the population.
There were 2,541 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.2% were non-families. 19.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.25.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $60,938, and the median income for a family was $67,917. Males had a median income of $50,000 versus $35,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $25,845. About 3.2% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
