Omaha Summary

Omaha is a small village located in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Fox River, approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The population of Omaha was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Omaha was founded in 1835 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The village was named after the Omaha tribe of Native Americans who had previously inhabited the area. The first post office was established in 1837 and the village was incorporated in 1872.

The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
