Odell Summary

Odell is a village located in Livingston County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bloomington–Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Odell was founded in 1854 by William Odell, a settler from New York. The village was incorporated in 1872. The village was named after William Odell, who was the first settler in the area.

Geography

Odell is located at 40°59'25" North, 88°37'45" West (40.990278, -88.629167). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.86 square miles (2.23 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Odell is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, including a dairy farm, a hog farm, and a grain farm. The village also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 298 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,269.2 people per square mile (490.2/km2). There were 454 housing units at an average density of 527.2 per square mile (203.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.54% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 1.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
