Introduction

Mount Clare is a small village located in Macoupin County, Illinois. It is situated in the southwestern part of the state, about 25 miles from the state capital of Springfield. The village has a population of just over 500 people, and is part of the larger metropolitan area of St. Louis, Missouri. The village is known for its rural charm and its close proximity to the larger cities of St. Louis and Springfield.

History

Mount Clare was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Carlinville. The settlers were looking for a place to settle and start a new life, and they chose the area around Mount Clare because of its fertile soil and its close proximity to the larger cities of St. Louis and Springfield. The village was named after the nearby mountain, Mount Clare, which was named after the wife of one of the settlers.
