Mettawa Summary

Mettawa is a village located in Lake County, Illinois, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

History

Mettawa was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after a Native American chief who lived in the area. The first post office was established in 1837.
In the late 19th century, Mettawa was a popular summer resort for wealthy Chicagoans. The village was incorporated in 1957.
