McCook Summary

Mccook, IL is a village located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 8,924 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

History

Mccook was founded in 1869 by William B. McCook, a Civil War veteran and former mayor of Chicago. The village was named after him. The village was incorporated in 1873.
In the late 19th century, Mccook was a popular destination for wealthy Chicagoans who wanted to escape the city and enjoy the rural atmosphere. The village was known for its large estates and luxurious homes.

Geography

Mccook is located at 41°45'17" North, 87°45'17" West (41.754722, -87.754722). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.
