History
Mccook was founded in 1869 by William B. McCook, a Civil War veteran and former mayor of Chicago. The village was named after him. The village was incorporated in 1873.
In the late 19th century, Mccook was a popular destination for wealthy Chicagoans who wanted to escape the city and enjoy the rural atmosphere. The village was known for its large estates and luxurious homes.
Geography
Mccook is located at 41°45'17" North, 87°45'17" West (41.754722, -87.754722). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

The racial makeup of the village was 79.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 4.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 5.2% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 13.2% of the population.
There were 3,541 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. 24.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
