History
Marion was founded in 1839 by William and Mary Brickey, who named the city after Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion. The city was incorporated in 1857. The city has a total area of 11.2 square miles, of which 11.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water.

Marion's economy is largely based on manufacturing and retail.
