Hopkins Park is a small unincorporated community located in Kankakee County, Illinois. It is situated in the northeast corner of the county, approximately 10 miles south of Kankakee and 25 miles south of Chicago. The population of Hopkins Park was estimated to be around 500 in 2000.

History

The area that is now Hopkins Park was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from New York. The settlement was originally known as “New York Settlement” and was located in what is now the northeast corner of Kankakee County. The settlement was later renamed “Hopkins Park” after the first postmaster, William Hopkins.
The first post office in Hopkins Park was established in 1854. The town was officially incorporated in 1858. In the late 1800s, the town was a thriving agricultural community with a population of around 500.
In the early 1900s, the town began to decline as the railroad bypassed it and the population began to move away. By the 1950s, the population had dropped to around 200.

Geography

Hopkins Park is located in the northeast corner of Kankakee County, approximately 10 miles south of Kankakee and 25 miles south of Chicago. The town is situated on the Kankakee River, which is a tributary of the Illinois River.
The town is located in a rural area and is surrounded by farmland. The terrain is mostly flat with some rolling hills. The climate is humid continental, with hot summers and cold winters.
