History

Hebron was first settled in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as "Hebronville" and was incorporated in 1872. The name was changed to Hebron in 1887.
The village was a farming community until the 1950s, when it began to experience rapid growth due to its proximity to Chicago. The population of Hebron has grown steadily since then, reaching 1,717 in 2000 and 1,845 in 2010.

Geography

Hebron is located at 42°17'25"N 88°20'45"W (42.290278, -88.345833). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

Economy

Hebron is primarily a residential community, with most of its residents commuting to nearby cities for work. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 690 households, and 517 families residing in the village. The population density was 837.3 people per square mile (323.7/km2). There were 717 housing units at an average density of 326.8 per square mile (126.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.7% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older.
