Hanaford Summary

Hanaford is a small village located in the state of Illinois, in the United States. It is situated in the northern part of the state, in the county of McHenry. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is located about 40 miles northwest of Chicago.

History

The area that is now Hanaford was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of German immigrants. The village was originally known as “Hoffman’s Grove”, after the first settler, John Hoffman. The village was officially incorporated in 1872, and was renamed Hanaford in honor of the first postmaster, William Hanaford.
In the late 1800s, the village was a thriving agricultural community, with many farms and orchards. The village also had a number of small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith, and a sawmill.
In the early 1900s, the village began to decline as many of the residents moved away to larger cities. The village was nearly abandoned by the 1950s, but was revitalized in the 1970s when a group of investors purchased the land and began to develop it.
