Grandwood Park Summary

Grandwood Park is a village located in Lake County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,945 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

History

Grandwood Park was first settled in the late 1800s by German immigrants. The village was originally known as Grandwood, but the name was changed to Grandwood Park in the early 1900s. The village was incorporated in 1957.

Geography

Grandwood Park is located at 42°19'17" North, 87°51'45" West (42.3214, -87.8625). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Grandwood Park is largely based on the service industry. The village is home to several restaurants, retail stores, and other businesses. The village also has a small industrial park.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 2,945 people, 1,093 households, and 817 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,457.5 people per square mile (949.3/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 971.7 per square mile (375.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 94.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.3% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
