East Galesburg is a small village located in Knox County, Illinois, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Spoon River, approximately 10 miles east of Galesburg. The population of East Galesburg was 1,717 at the 2010 census.
History
East Galesburg was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Galesburg, Illinois. The village was originally known as "East Galesburg Station" due to its proximity to the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. The village was officially incorporated in 1872.
East Galesburg was a major stop on the Underground Railroad, with many of the local residents providing shelter and assistance to escaped slaves. The village was also home to a number of prominent abolitionists, including the Reverend John H. Finley, who was a leader in the anti-slavery movement in the area.
Geography
East Galesburg is located at 40°56'25" North, 90°25'45" West (40.940278, -90.429167). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.9 square miles, all land.

East Galesburg is a small, rural community with a primarily agricultural economy. The village is home to a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a few other small shops.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,717 people, 690 households, and 463 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,902.2 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.5% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
The median age in the village was 41.2 years. 22.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.2% were from 25 to 44; 28.2% were from 45 to 64; and 17.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 48.2% male and 51.8% female.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $50,000. Males had a median income of $37,500 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $19,945. About 6.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
