History

Deer Park was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was originally known as Deer Grove, but the name was changed to Deer Park in 1856. The village was incorporated in 1956.

Geography

Deer Park is located at 42°14'25" North, 87°51'45" West (42.240278, -87.862444). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 4,919 people, 1,845 households, and 1,323 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,170.2 people per square mile (451.3/km2). There were 1,945 housing units at an average density of 463.3 per square mile (179.1/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 87.2% White, 4.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 4.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.3% of the population.
There were 1,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
