Cary, Illinois is a village located in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 18,271 at the 2010 census. It is a rapidly growing suburb of Chicago, located roughly 40 miles northwest of the city's downtown.

History

Cary is a rapidly growing suburb of Chicago, and its economy is largely based on the city's proximity to the city. The village is home to a number of businesses, including manufacturing, retail, and service industries. The village is also home to a number of corporate headquarters, including the headquarters of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Radiology, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 18,271 people, 6,845 households, and 4,945 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,072.2 people per square mile (800.2/km2). There were 7,093 housing units at an average density of 801.3 per square mile (309.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 87.2% White, 4.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 4.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.7% from other races, and 2.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.3% of the population.
There were 6,845 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 22.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $71,945, and the median income for a family was $81,945. Males had a median income of $51,945 versus $37,945 for females.
