Buda Summary
Buda, Illinois is a small village located in Bureau County, Illinois. It is situated on the banks of the Illinois River, about 25 miles south of the city of Peoria. The population of Buda was 1,093 at the 2010 census.
History
Buda was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The village was named after the town of Buda, Hungary, which was the birthplace of one of the settlers. The settlers built a sawmill and a gristmill, and the village quickly grew. By 1837, the village had a post office, a school, and a church.
In 1854, the Illinois Central Railroad was built through Buda, and the village became a major shipping point for grain and livestock. The railroad also brought new settlers to the area, and the population of Buda grew to over 1,000 by the turn of the century.
In the early 1900s, Buda was a thriving agricultural community. The village had several grain elevators, a creamery, a flour mill, and a canning factory. The village also had several stores, a bank, a hotel, and a movie theater.

Buda is located at 41°17'N 89°37'W (41.2833, -89.6167). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all land.

The racial makeup of the village was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
