Buckner is a small village located in Will County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area.

History

Buckner was founded in 1854 by William Buckner, a farmer from Ohio. He purchased land in the area and built a log cabin. The village was originally known as Buckner's Station, and was a stop on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. The village was incorporated in 1872.

Geography

Buckner is located at 41°25'25"N 88°10'17"W (41.423, -88.171). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Economy

Buckner is a small, rural village with a limited economy. The village is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a gas station, and a few restaurants. The village also has a post office and a library.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 690 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (593.3/km2). There were 745 housing units at an average density of 621.7 per square mile (239.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
