Bartonville Summary

Bartonville is a village located in Peoria County, Illinois, United States. The population was 4,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Bartonville was founded in 1854 by William Barton, a farmer from Ohio. He purchased the land from the government and began to develop the area. The village was originally known as Bartonville Station, as it was located on the Chicago and Alton Railroad. The village was incorporated in 1872.

Geography

Bartonville is located at 40°41'25" North, 89°35'45" West (40.690278, -89.595833). According to the 2010 census, Bartonville has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.

Economy

Bartonville is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a gas station, and several restaurants. The village is also home to a number of industrial and manufacturing companies, including Caterpillar, Inc., which has a large manufacturing facility in the village.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 4,890 people, 1,845 households, and 1,323 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,213.6 people per square mile (854.7/km2). There were 1,945 housing units at an average density of 876.4 per square mile (338.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 95.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.2% of the population.
There were 1,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% were non-families. 24.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $50,938, and the median income for a family was $58,906. Males had a median income of $41,964 versus $30,917 for females. The per capita income for the village was $22,945.
