Addieville Summary

Addieville is a small village located in Washington County, Illinois, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Centralia Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Addieville was founded in 1858 by John Addie, a German immigrant. He purchased the land from the government and began to develop the area. He built a sawmill, a grist mill, and a blacksmith shop. He also built a store and a post office. The village was named after him.
In the late 19th century, Addieville was a thriving community with a population of over 500 people. It had several stores, a hotel, a bank, a school, and a church. The village was also home to a number of businesses, including a brickyard, a creamery, and a lumberyard.

Geography

Addieville is located at 38°25'25" North, 89°17'45" West (38.423, -89.296). According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Addieville is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, which produce corn, soybeans, and wheat. There are also several small businesses in the village, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 545 people, 206 households, and 149 families residing in the village. The population density was 890.0 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 226 housing units at an average density of 370.0 per square mile (142.9/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the population.
