Whitehall Summary
Whitehall is a village located in Washington County, New York, United States. The population was 2,668 at the 2010 census. The village is named after Whitehall, the former residence of the British Prime Minister.
History
Whitehall was first settled in 1759 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The village was originally known as Skenesborough, after the local landowner, Philip Skene. The village was later renamed Whitehall in 1810.
The village was an important port on Lake Champlain during the Revolutionary War. It was the site of the Battle of Valcour Island in 1776, which was a major victory for the American forces.
The village was incorporated in 1815. In the 19th century, Whitehall was an important center for the lumber industry. The village was also home to several iron foundries and other industries.
Geography
Whitehall is located at 43°14'25" North, 73°20'45" West (43.240278, -73.345833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
The village is located on the western shore of Lake Champlain, near the mouth of the Poultney River. The village is bordered by the town of Whitehall to the north, east, and south, and by the town of Fort Ann to the west.

Whitehall is a small village with a population of just over 2,600 people. The village is home to several small businesses, including a few restaurants, a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few other retail stores.
The village is also home to several manufacturing companies, including a paper mill, a plastics factory, and a metal fabrication plant. The village is also home to a few small farms.

As of the census of 2010, there were 2,668 people, 1,093 households, and 690 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,213.3 people per square mile (854.7/km2). There were 1,183 housing units at an average density of 972.5 per square mile (375.3/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $35,938, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,945.
