History

The area that is now Palatine Bridge was originally inhabited by the Mohawk people, who were part of the Iroquois Confederacy. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 17th century, and the village was officially founded in 1788. The village was named after the Palatine Germans who had settled in the area in the early 18th century.
The village was an important stop on the Erie Canal, which was completed in 1825. The canal brought increased trade and commerce to the area, and the village grew rapidly. The village was incorporated in 1832, and the first post office was established in 1833.
