New Berlin Summary

New Berlin is a small town located in the central part of Chenango County, New York. It is situated on the banks of the Unadilla River, about 20 miles south of the city of Utica. The town was first settled in 1793 and was incorporated in 1806. The population of New Berlin was 2,845 at the 2010 census.

Geography

New Berlin is located at 42°45'N 75°25'W (42.75, -75.42). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 28.2 square miles, of which 28.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square mile (0.36%) is water.
The Unadilla River flows through the town, and the town is home to several small lakes, including Lake Unadilla, Lake Whetstone, and Lake Sherwood. The town is also home to several small creeks, including the East Branch of the Unadilla River, the West Branch of the Unadilla River, and the East Branch of the Chenango River.

History

New Berlin was first settled in 1793 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The town was originally known as "Unadilla," but was later changed to "New Berlin" in 1806. The town was named after the German city of Berlin.
