Madrid Summary

Madrid is a town located in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. The town is named after the Spanish capital, Madrid.

Geography

Madrid is located in the northern part of St. Lawrence County, in the western part of the state. It is bordered by the towns of Macomb to the north, Clifton to the east, and Louisville to the south. The Oswegatchie River flows through the town.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 36.2sqmi, of which 35.9sqmi is land and 0.3sqmi, or 0.86%, is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the town. The population density was 79.3 people per square mile (30.6/km^2). There were 1,220 housing units at an average density of 33.9 per square mile (13.1/km^2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.45% White, 0.21% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.14% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.53% of the population.
