Cold Brook Summary

Brook, New York is a small hamlet located in Herkimer County, New York. It is situated in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, and is part of the Town of Ohio. The hamlet is located on the banks of the Cold Brook, a tributary of the Mohawk River. The population of Cold Brook was estimated to be around 500 people in 2000.

History

The area that is now Cold Brook was first settled in the late 1700s by a group of German immigrants. The hamlet was originally known as “Cold Brook Settlement” and was part of the Town of Ohio. The name was changed to Cold Brook in 1845.
The hamlet was an important stop on the stagecoach route between Utica and Albany. The stagecoach route was established in 1820 and ran through Cold Brook until the mid-1800s.
The hamlet was also an important stop on the New York Central Railroad, which ran through Cold Brook from 1851 to the mid-1900s. The railroad was an important part of the local economy, as it allowed for the transportation of goods and people to and from the hamlet.
The hamlet was also home to a number of small businesses, including a sawmill, a gristmill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
