History

Rushford, New York is a small village located in the town of Rushford in Allegany County, New York. The village was first settled in 1812 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The village was originally known as “Rushford Centre” and was named after the nearby Rushford Creek. The village was incorporated in 1848 and was the first village in Allegany County to be incorporated.
The village of Rushford was an important stop on the Underground Railroad. The village was home to several abolitionists who helped escaped slaves make their way to freedom.
