Livonia Summary

Livonia is a town located in Livingston County, New York, United States. The population was 5,735 at the 2010 census. The town is named after the ancient Roman province of Livonia.

History

The area that is now Livonia was first settled in 1790 by a group of settlers from Massachusetts. The town was formed in 1808 from the Town of Leicester. Livonia was the first town in Livingston County to be settled.
The first post office in Livonia was established in 1812. The first schoolhouse was built in 1814. The first church was built in 1817.
The first railroad line in Livonia was built in 1852. The railroad line connected Livonia to Rochester and Buffalo.
