Kenmore Summary
Kenmore is a village located in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 15,423 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area.
History
The area that is now Kenmore was originally part of the Town of Tonawanda. The area was first settled in 1805 by Ebenezer Johnson, who built a log cabin near what is now Military Road. The area was known as Johnson's Settlement until 1853, when it was renamed Kenmore after the town of Kenmore in Scotland.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Kenmore is home to several businesses, including a variety of restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The village is also home to a number of manufacturing and industrial businesses, including a large printing plant and a metal fabrication plant.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 15,423 people, 6,717 households, and 4,072 families residing in the village. The population density was 6,945.3 people per square mile (2,683.2/km2). There were 6,945 housing units at an average density of 3,093.3 per square mile (1,192.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.3% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 6,717 households, out of which 25.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.3% were non-families. 33.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 21.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 20.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,945, and the median income for a family was $51,945. Males had a median income of $37,945 versus $27,945 for females. The per capita income for the village was $21,945. About 4.2% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 5.2% of those age 65 or over.
